Sleep Powder and Stun Spore both have the same accuracy, so pick whichever you prefer. Immunity to Toxic and absorbing any Toxic Spikes increases Gloom’s usefulness, and the various powder moves find their way into Gloom’s move pool. Pump up its HP and both Defense stats to have Gloom become a fairly decent wall and get ready for some more Toxic stalling. So, once again Eviolite is the key to using Gloom. Gloom is workable, at the very least, but there’s no reason at all to use it over its Evolution, Vileplume. I’m glad there was a lot to write about for battle so this entry is still nicely sized.įemale Vileplume have fewer spots, but they’re bigger! Until that happens, Vileplume is rather mediocre.ĪT LEAST IT’S CUTE?: ALL STYLE/NO SUBSTANCE Give Vileplume a +100 to its base stats and it’ll become an asset to any team. Plus it loses points for re-using the rafflesia (The same flower Venusaur’s tree is based on) It’s a logical change and all, it’s just not very interesting. The flower is now bloomed, and… well… Vileplume can smile. Cuteness scores it a ton of points for appeal though, so it still earns that 4. Vileplume is cute, but it’s very very bland. There’s really not much more to say on this set, because Vileplume’s slow speed keeps it from performing it exceptionally well, but it is still an option if you’d like to use Vileplume. Access to Aromatherapy, Stun Spore, and Sleep Powder means Vileplume can easily cripple the opposing team and keep itself alive thanks to Giga Drain or Moonlight / Synthesis. For a third move you can try something like Gastro Acid to negate any secret tricks your opponent’s ability may hold while you’re letting it die slowly, and of course Giga Drain is still a good option for a fourth move, since you’ll want to keep yourself alive while your opponent flails around.įinally, Vileplume is decent as a Supporting Pokemon. Infestation will keep your opponent in the battle with you, and you can invest fully in your Defense stats and hold Black Sludge to keep yourself alive for an annoying amount of time. Moonlight / Synthesis will keep you alive while your opponent slowly dies after you’ve Poisoned them via Toxic. Thanks to its Poison typing it will never miss with Toxic and it can’t be poisoned in retaliation. For your fourth move you’re pretty much forced into Status, so Stun Spore, Sleep Powder, or Moonlight / Synthesis for healing are good options. Sadly, Vileplume is severely lacking in coverage options, so your only other choices for coverage are Sludge Bomb, Hidden Power, and Dazzling Gleam. Giga Drain is a good alternative, as it’ll help keep your Vileplume alive, especially if you’re holding a Life Orb which you probably should. Without Sun you can go for Petal Dance, but you’ll be locked into the move for a few turns that way. If you’ve got Sun set up then you’ll definitely be preferring Chlorophyll, and you can immediately go to town via Solarbeam. If you don’t like Sun or don’t want to bother then you’ll want Effect Spore to be its ability for some hopefully free status on attacking opponents. Vileplume is rather slow, so while a regular Special Attacking set will work, a Chlorophyll set with Sun just works better in my opinion. Starting with the first and best one in my opinion. A Special Attacker / Sun Sweeper, a Toxic Staller, and Support. So here’s the 3 main sets you’ll want to consider if using a Vileplume. Since the other 2 sections were light I think I’ll go all out here even though Vileplume isn’t that good. Lemme know what you think and I can spend a day going back and adding it to all the previous entries if it’s liked.ĪNYWAY! Vileplume still has Chlorophyll, and is now fully evolved to take advantage of it. It’s not a huge hassle to get the image, and I like the visual of it. I really like the updated bars that Smogon uses for its stats (As in, the image directly above this.) and I’ve been wondering if you guys would like me to keep adding these to the front of every Battle discussion section. With that lovely mental image we’ll continue onto the next sectionįirst a random aside. We all know what it’s supposed to be, but to me it really just looks like a bruised, swollen butt hole spraying diarrhea. So instead I’ll close this section with this image.
